Glenn Zaragoza - Marina Del Rey Based CPA Accounting Help

Glenn sent us the tax return draft for 42,000 more than it should have been. My wife noticed that there was already a lot of tax paid in one paystub equity payout as part of my employer being acquired and we asked him to clarify it. He responded by saying he accidentally had us as CA residents and not CO residents. I told him that this was a massive mistake and that wed like the 450 deposit back since we dont feel comfortable continuing. He said he cant return it and that it was my fault for not telling him we moved to CO. However, that was absolutely not true. Along with my initial documents he requested, I sent without him even requesting a breakdown of our situtation including how we moved from CA to CO, where we have equity, where weve donated, etc. The very first bullet point of those notes was:Colorado move and house purchaseOn October 12th we purchased a home in Colorado and on the 28th we relocated. What kind of documentation do you need for this, if any?Even if it were true that I hadnt told him about moving to CO, thats something a professional should be asking their client. Thats pretty basic stuff that any CPA should clarify from day 1. He then switched to saying that what he sent was only a draft and that he wouldnt be able to submit it as is anyway I doubt thats true. And even so, should that instill confidence in him? I told him that regardless of it being a draft, he sent it to me and my wife for final review. How is that acceptable? Were paying him 1,100 to not only file our taxes, but to file them correctly and to leave us feeling more at ease than had we done them ourselves. He absolutely failed at both of those and apparently didnt even read the notes I had given him. I asked him if he were in my shoes, would he feel comfortable continuing with him and he flat out said no. Credit where its due that he at least answered honestly, but if thats true, then how does he not think its the decent thing to do to refund the deposit? In the end I convinced him to refund 100 of the 450.To not even have the decency to refund the full deposit after making such a huge mistake If I were him I would be mortified and have had no problem returning the deposit and moving on. I think most ethical people would. Just no shame with him. Im flabbergasted that thats how he handled the situation.If youre looking for a CPA, keep looking.
